Killington Forward

The Future of the Resort Area

Killington is in the midst of one of the most significant periods of investment and change in its history.

At the center of that transformation is Killington Forward, a Town of Killington initiative designed to support long-term community and economic growth through major infrastructure improvements. The initiative includes a new municipal water system, reconstruction and safety improvements along Killington Road, expanded pedestrian and multimodal connections, workforce housing, and infrastructure needed to support future development near the mountain.

For visitors, many of these improvements are ultimately about creating a safer, more connected and more welcoming destination. Plans for Killington Road include sidewalks, a multi-use path, pedestrian crossings, bus pullouts, lighting, landscaping, and intersection improvements, while the new water system will provide critical infrastructure for businesses, schools, housing, and future development throughout the corridor.

A New Mountain Village

One of the largest private developments connected to this transformation is the Great Gulf Killington Village, the new mountain village being developed by Great Gulf on approximately 450 acres at the base of the resort.

The master-planned community is envisioned as a walkable, four-season village with residences, restaurants, shops, gathering spaces and recreational amenities located steps from the slopes. Great Gulf’s plans call for more than 200 homes and approximately 32,000 square feet of commercial space in the first phase, along with a new base lodge that will eventually replace the existing Snowshed and Ramshead lodges.

The broader vision includes additional residences, outdoor gathering areas, wellness amenities, and other four-season experiences intended to create a more complete village environment at the base of the mountain.

Killington Resort’s Role

Killington Resort is an important partner in the area’s evolution, but Killington Forward itself is a Town-led initiative and the village is independently developed by Great Gulf.

The Resort has supported that broader effort in several ways. In 2023, Killington Resort and Great Gulf jointly pledged $700,000 to the Town of Killington to help fund the purchase of 70 acres intended for workforce housing. The property is planned to accommodate approximately 250–300 housing units and will ultimately be served by the new municipal water system.

Killington Resort is also continuing its own investments in lifts, snowmaking, lodges, summer recreation and guest amenities while coordinating with the Town and Great Gulf as the base-area village takes shape.

Building the Next Chapter of Killington

Together, these public and private investments represent much more than a new collection of buildings.

Improved infrastructure can support housing, local businesses, and schools. Safer roads and expanded pedestrian connections can make it easier to move through town. A new village can create additional dining, retail, and gathering spaces. Continued resort investment can strengthen the four-season mountain experience that draws visitors here in the first place.

For Killington, the opportunity is to grow while preserving what has always made the community distinctive: a connection to the mountains, a strong local business community, and a place where residents and visitors share the same landscape. Killington Forward is helping build the infrastructure for that next chapter, while Killington Resort, Great Gulf, and the wider community each play distinct roles in shaping what comes next.
